What does it all cost?
some frequently asked questions and a rough guide to the answers….
DESIGN WORK
All design work is tailor-made for the client and costs will reflect the simplicity or complexity of what I am asked to do.
chalkfish usually sets a day charge for custom designing and will inform in the quote process exactly how many days I will be billing for so you know exactly where you are re. cost. These costs are factored in to packages below but standard web design rate i.e. £30 an hour applies. All jobs are quoted individually and take into account client specifications.If a brief is changed dramatically I will ensure all extra costs are agreed before proceeding.
How long will it take?
This can vary but, as a rough guide, a small web site could be up and running within two to three days. The more complex the site the longer the period required. More pages can be added to any site at any time.
Hosting?
Online hosting is incorporated in the packages below if you do not have a web server already or it may be necessary to upgrade to a better server package if you require uploading and client-side updating from your website. I manage this process and it is incorporated in overall costings (see below). Again all costs are up front.
Training & Ongoing Support
I offer full continuing support and training in the use of any updating software should it be needed.I ensure all clients are fully aware of the options available and get the best out of their website once up and running. Training rates are competitive and start at £30 an hour. Again two hours training are included in packages below.For businesses I can agree training rates on an individual basis for staff etc.
ACCESSIBILITY
All work strives towards validation to W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) standards. All work is checked as accessible on delivery although such is the constantly evolving nature of present day software I cannot guarantee compliance at all times. My background in teaching and community arts means I have an acute awareness of accessibility and user rights and security issues.

ANGEL FISH
Small Website up to £250
A template-based website using open-source software (Wordpress - as used on this website - you are looking at a wordpress solution at Angel Fish level!) that allows you to easily maintain your own website.Basic design modifications to template within reason ..i.e. changing basic colours, font and general feel, designing a banner. etc. included in price.
Hosting & 1 hour training included.
Your own domain name if you do not have it set up already and hosting for one year are included in price ( £50 a year annual renewal). This includes updating the software when necessary and ironing out problems should they arise. Also included is training in using the updating facility if unfamiliar (1 hour included in cost).
Tiger Fish
Medium website up to £500
A website designed to your specification and requirements i.e. a designed use of Wordpress template that means it has an ‘unique’ look and feel and can include separate blogs if required. Includes set-up of visitor-tracking, low level S.E.O. (Search Engine Optimization) and provides a unique designed solution for the client.Using Wordpress will allow your own maintenance of website. And one ‘blogging’ page. Further options for a forum, shopping cart and further blogs within the website development are available. Each carries an extra charge depending on scale.

Flyin Fish
Business Website & extras
(as specified e.g. branding, graphic design etc.) £500 and above…All the features of above and unique design to specification and ongoing development if required.Branding and corporate design including website design and graphic design if required. Advice on accessibility rights and legality/web standards. Full scale CMS (Drupal or Joomla based) if required enabling full user enabled editing of all pages. Forms and database queries. Obviously with a complicated brief each component will be priced individually.Cancellation terms as below.
Cancellation (Kill Fee)
Cancellation of orders may be made initially by telephone contact, or e-mail, however, following this, Chalkfish will need formal notification in writing to the company’s postal address. The client will then be invoiced for all work completed . The balance of monies due must be paid within 30 days.Please note: any cancellation which is not formally confirmed in writing and received by Chalkfish within 14 days of such instruction being issued, will be liable for the full quoted cost of the project.I hope you have found this guide usefulAny further questions feel free to email or ring
